The name of the game is borrowed from two English words basket and ball. The basketball sport is a championship between two struggling basketball sport teams consisting of five people each.
Basketball sport games are played with hands in the open air or indoors. In this case, the height of the ceiling spaces should be not less than 7 meters. According to basketball rules its playground is a solid surface such as concrete, wood floor, sometimes asphalt. The site area is 28h15 meters. At the edges of platforms there are installed panels, which are at a height of 3.05 meters mounted basket.
The goal for the basketball players is to make a score into the opponent’s basket. Under the rules of basketball, teh winner is the team gaining more points than its opponent does. Each of the rolls can yield different amounts of points for the team. Penalty Shot brings 1 point, toss with the near and middle distance – 2 points and shot from long positions – 3 points.
One meeting between the two teams is called a match, consisting of four ten-minute periods with a two-minute intervals. Duration of the first and third break is two minutes, the duration of the second break is fifteen minutes. In the second break, the teams change their baskets.
To determine the winner, when the team is gaining an equal number of points there assigned five minutes of extra time. In total, the basketball team could consist of more than 12 people. In the course of the match tehre allowed unlimited substitutions.
In basketball, there are also some restrictions on time:
- No more than three seconds offensive player is in the area directly in front of the enemy’s ring (penalty area);
- Not more than five seconds, the player holding the ball for throw-in;
- No more than eight seconds, the team has possession of the ball in their zone of protection;
- Not more than 24 seconds per attack. If the team during this time was struck by enemy basket and did not touch the ball never backboard or basket. After touching, by 24 seconds updates.
The violation of the rules is called a foul. After receiving the usual five fouls a player leaves teh match. In the first case he gets on the bench, while the second means to leave the playground.
